Deus Ex Remastered’s High PC System Requirements Spark Shock and Ridicule
Deus Ex Remastered‘s PC system requirements are officially out, and they are high enough to have completely blindsided some fans, sparking everything from shock to outright ridicule. As things currently stand, Deus Ex Remastered will insist on a significantly beefier rig than the convincingly best-looking entry in the franchise.
A modernized version of the first Deus Ex was officially announced during the latest PlayStation Showcase. The September 24 event yielded a brief teaser trailer showcasing some of the game’s graphical improvements and confirming Aspyr Media as the developer handling the remaster.
Fans Baffled as Deus Ex Remastered's PC Requirements and 'Ugly' Graphics
Shortly thereafter, the Deus Ex Remastered Steam page went live, revealing PC system requirements that have surprised some vocal fans with how high they are. The recommended specs include 16GB RAM, a high-end CPU no older than five years, and either the GeForce RTX 2080 or Radeon RX 6750, GPUs that have 8GB and 12GB VRAM, respectively. Some fans are calling this a “joke,” especially given how polarizing the remaster’s graphics are proving to be. While undoubtedly higher-res than the original, the modernized game has drawn criticism for eerily smooth character models and overly shiny surfaces, with some social media users going as far as calling it flat-out “ugly.”
The remaster’s system requirements are significantly higher than those of the critically acclaimed Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, the 2016 series entry that’s widely seen as the best-looking game in the franchise. While modern light rendering technologies such as ray tracing or path tracing could be used to explain the relatively high specs that the game demands, neither its Steam page nor the reveal trailer mention anything of the sort being part of the package. The gap between Deus Ex Remastered‘s minimum and recommended specs has also raised some eyebrows for being unusually high.
Between the remaster’s $29.99 price tag (lowered to $26.99 for pre-orders) and the fact that the original Deus Ex still holds up well and supports a plethora of mods that make it more attuned to modern sensibilities, some fans are now saying they have no intention of picking up the new version of the game anytime soon. Its visual quirks drawing criticism may stem from AI upscaling, a method not confirmed by the developers but commonly used across the industry, especially in lower-budget projects.

Deus Ex Remastered is scheduled to launch on February 5, 2026. It will be available on the PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Remasters are likely the only thing fans can expect from the iconic cyberpunk franchise for the foreseeable future, as the next mainline Deus Ex game was reportedly canceled by Embracer Group in early 2024.
